Leadership institute looking for 2011 class

The Bangor Region Leadership Institute is recruiting for its 2011 class of business, public and nonprofit leaders after revamping its website last month.

The institute, managed by the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, has been around since 1998 but relaunched its website last month, says Johann Sabbath, the chamber's director of program development and membership value. Sabbath says it's one of a few regionally focused leadership programs in the state. Similar programs, such as Leadership Maine and the Institute of Civic Leadership, have a statewide focus. The program seeks to bridge the gap between private, public and nonprofit leaders, connecting seasoned business leaders with newer execs in the Bangor area through classes and networking events.

Each class consists of 25 people, split into two teams, tasked with working together to accomplish a specific project for a local nonprofit, which can be anything from fundraising to publicity campaigns, says Sabbath.

Applications for the 2011 class are due by July 31.
