Legislature unveils list of upcoming bill titles

The Legislature has unveiled a list of 401 bill titles that lawmakers want on the agenda in January, including proposals to require two-thirds support for tax increases or decreases and lighter subjects, like making the lobster roll the official state sandwich.

The Bangor Daily News reported a group of six Democrats and four Republicans will meet Oct. 30 to decide which bills to bring before the Legislature in January, a decision that will be open to appeals in November. The state will also consider 213 bills carried over from the 126th Legislature’s first session that adjourned in July.

Some notable bill titles from the latest list include:

— LR: 2687 An Act to Require a Company to Disclose the Amount of and Reason for a Settlement

Entered into with an Individual, sponsored by Rep. Jeffery Gifford, R-Lincoln.

— LR 2666, An Act to Exempt Fuel Used in Off-road Commercial and Construction Equipment from Fuel Taxes, sponsored by Sen. David Burns, R-Whiting.

— LR 2296, An Act to Provide Priority Funding for State-Municipal Revenue Sharing, Sponsored by Rep. Jeffrey Evangelos, U-Friendship.

— LR 2262, An Act to Amend the Sales Tax Increase for 2014 and 2015, Sponsored by House Minority Leader Kenneth Fredette, R-Newport.

— LR 2428, A Resolve Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Require a Two-thirds Vote of the Legislature to Increase or Decrease a Tax, sponsored by Rep. Dennis Keschl, R-Belgrade.

— LR: 2439 An Act to Amend the Law Concerning the Designation of Pine Tree Development Zones, sponsored by Sen. James Boyle, D-Gorham.
