Following an announcement from the national Tax Foundation that Maine's tax climate has become more favorable for businesses in the last year, Gov. LePage is proposing further tax cuts.
LePage told Capitol News Service he believes Maine should have no corporate income tax and that taxes need to be lowered for Maine to compete with other states.
Maine is now listed in the 30th spot on the think tank's list — up from 37th — but LePage told CNS that he wants the state to be in the "middle of the pack" and staked the success of his governorship on getting Maine to the 25th spot on that list.
LePage also told the news service that he views the higher ranking as a move in the right direction, but that "in my mind, it's so far away from where we need to be, it's really symbolic."
LePage said that Maine Revenue Services has given him a number of tax cut proposals that he is reviewing.
