A state-of-the-art fitness court is coming to Simard-Payne Park in Lewiston.
Maine will have its first fitness court for ages 14 and over when the site opens Friday, Sept. 9. It will feature a fitness court challenge and demos led by trained local ambassadors, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“This outdoor fitness court will complement Simard-Payne Park nicely and is an exciting addition to our riverwalk and downtown,” said Lewiston Mayor Carl L. Sheline.
The fitness court is in partnership between Community Health Options, the city of Lewiston and the National Fitness Campaign.
The National Fitness Campaign designed the fitness court to be the world’s first outdoor gym that enables people to use their body weight to complete a workout using seven exercise stations — in as little as seven minutes.
“This project is just one part of our commitment to the health and well-being of Maine people, which includes making fitness opportunities free and accessible to help build healthy communities,” said Kevin Lewis, president and CEO of Community Health Options.
Users can download the free Fitness Court app to elevate the outdoor gym to a digitally supported wellness experience.
A second fitness court will be opening this month in Hampden. The Town of Hampden has teamed up with Community Health Options and National Fitness Campaign to open an outdoor Fitness Court. To celebrate the opening, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 13.
“We are proud to be the exclusive sponsor of National Fitness Campaign in Maine and are pleased to be opening our second Fitness Court in the Town of Hampden,” said Kevin Lewis, Community Health Options president & CEO.
The Fitness Court is located at Hampden VFW Whitcomb Baker Post 4633 on Canoe Club Road.
