L.L.Bean announced today that it has partnered with Barclays, a London-based financial services company, to launch the Freeport retailer's new credit card program.
The new L.L.Bean Visa card program will launch tomorrow, according to a press release from the company. Barclaycard US, a Delaware-based division of Barclays, opened a call center in Wilton in April to handle the L.L.Bean account and the bank's other partner programs. The call center will employ roughly 50 people this year, with the potential to add 150 more jobs over the next few years as Barclays continues to grow its credit card operations, according to a press release from Gov. John Baldacci's office. An L.L.Bean spokesperson told Mainebiz in May that 20% of the company's customers hold the card.
L.L.Bean announced in May that it would end its relationship with Bank of America, the previous operator of the L.L.Bean Visa card program, after its contract with the North Carolina-based bank expired, which it was set to do today.
