Pleasant River Lumber Co. has acquired a Greenville company, Moosehead Cedar Log Homes, and plans to move it to Dover-Foxcroft — while moving another Pleasant River business to Greenville.
A news release announcing the purchase did not disclose terms, but said the relocations will take place this summer. Randy and Lucy Comber, who had owned and operated Moosehead since 1996, plan to retire but will assist with the transition.
The company will continue operation at the Pleasant River mill in Dover-Foxcroft, while Ware-Butler Inc. Lumber & Building Supplies will open its sixth location at the Greenville Industrial Park site being vacated by Moosehead.
Moosehead’s move will allow it to update its house production line to a new computerized system, and to make other process and equipment improvements, the release said.
“The opportunity to be associated with Pleasant River, Ware-Butler Inc. Lumber & Building Supplies, and the other related businesses under the Pleasant River umbrella will allow us to improve our manufacturing capabilities, expand our product offerings and increase our overall competitiveness in the log home industry nationwide,” Barry Ivey, president of Moosehead Cedar Log Homes, said in the release.
Alan Orcutt, director of retail operations for Pleasant River Lumber, said, “Ware-Butler Inc. is excited to be expanding to Greenville, as we strive to provide Maine contractors and consumers with competitively priced and consistently available building products. With Pleasant River Lumber and other partner suppliers, such as Mathews Brothers, we expect to be able to offer entire 'Made in Maine' home packages in the months ahead. We also see a great partnership and synergies with the new company addition, Moosehead Cedar Log Homes.”
Pleasant River currently owns and operates lumber manufacturing facilities in Dover-Foxcroft, Jackman, Enfield, Hancock and Sanford that specialize in spruce/fir framing lumber and Eastern white pine boards.
In addition to the mills, Pleasant River owns Chaffee Transport, a trucking company in Clinton; Quality Saw Sales & Service, a saw filing and supply company in Enfield; and A&A Brochu Logging, a logging division specializing in commercial thinning, headquartered in Enfield.
