Maine has seen a wave of new town and city managers this year.

The latest appointment is from the Aroostook County town of Madawaska, which hired David P. Daigle as town manager, effective July 15.

Daigle has had a range of experience, both as a manager in another Aroostook town and in working in finance in the community college system.

“During his interview, David showed us his understanding of municipal operations which is going to be positive for our community," said Jason Boucher, chairman of the five-person Madawaska Select Board.

“David is a good communicator. I believe that you will find him transparent and approachable. He is from Madawaska, and he is going to be a positive force for the Town of Madawaska."

Daigle steps into a role held by Gary Picard, who resigned as town manager in February.

Eaton Peabody's consulting group worked with the board to find a replacement.

“My municipal government experience and professional career have prepared me well for this position," Daigle said. "In a very short time, I met with some employees, volunteers, and townspeople. I'm grateful and humbled for the support and encouragement I have received thus far.

"Our community and people continue to be innovators and leaders in all things community, and I'm ready to 'hit the ground running' as we travel together in this next chapter for Madawaska.”

He is expected to be "busy in the first few months [acclimating] himself to the programs, processes and problem-solving that await his attention," the town said in announcing his appointment.

Madawaska is a town of 3,867 on the St. John River, at the northern border with New Brunswick, Canada. The town is home to a Twin Rivers paper mill, with a Twin River pulp mill across the river in Edmundston, New Brunswick.

“I look forward to working with the board of select persons, town employees, and the residents to continue making Madawaska a great place to live, work and play," Daigle said.
