Maine airports get $580,000 from FAA

Airports in Houlton and Lewiston/Auburn are receiving nearly $600,000 in funding for infrastructure upgrades and expansion from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Auburn/Lewiston Municipal Airport is receiving $369,907 to acquire land for runway extension plans, according to a press release from U.S Rep. Mike Michaud. Airport Executive Director Rick Cloutier told the Sun Journal the airport will buy about 8.5 acres, which will also add a safety buffer around the expanded runway. The project is currently in the permitting process.

The Houlton International Airport will also receive $210,900 to fund the installation of security fencing for the airport to meet requirements of the Department of Homeland Security, according to the release.
