Maine Children’s Home appoints Wiscasset social worker as executive director

The Maine Children’s Home, a Waterville nonprofit that offers programs for building and strengthening families and their children, has appointed Candace Marriner as executive director following a three-month national search.

Marriner succeeds Rick Dorian, who served as the executive director of MCH for seven years and guided the organization through significant growth and changes during the pandemic, according to a news release.

In her new role, Marriner will work closely with program directors to carry out the mission, vision and strategic objectives of MCH. Marriner will also be its primary public-facing representative and will be responsible for building relationships and collaborations that support the community's needs and meet the organization's goals.

Marriner has 25 years of leadership experience across the helping professions and 10 years of experience in foster care and adoption work.

“I am excited to be joining Maine Children’s Home,” said Marriner. “I am looking forward to working with the amazing staff, board of directors, partners and community members who share the passion of helping others through the invaluable work of this organization.”

Prior to joining MCH, Marriner was a clinical director for Sheepscot Regional Education Program in Wiscasset, where she supported students’ community-based learning and provided clinical oversight to staff.

A licensed clinical social worker, Marriner received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maine and an MBA from Husson University.

Maine Children’s Home is a 501(c)(3) organization. Founded in 1899, the organization assists more than 3,000 people yearly.
