Maine corporations should beware of mailings that offer to file their annual reports for a $185 fee.
Corporations have recently received “solicitation forms” that resemble the state’s annual report form, but are not valid and don’t come from the Department of the Secretary of State, according to a news release Monday.
Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap pointed out in the release that the department’s Division of Corporations does not mail the form.
Maine corporations have received similar scams in previous years, he said.
The deadline to file 2020 annual reports with the Secretary of State’s office is June 1, 2020, and filings can be made online as early as Jan. 1.
Businesses with questions about the annual report process can contact the Division of Corporations at 207-624-7752.
I received an official looking document in the mail from C.P.F.S. 126 Western, Ave. #331, Augusta, Maine 04330. It indicated I needed to respond with my 2020 annual report filing by 12/13/2019 and required payment of $185. In addition to the form they sent me to complete, they gave a phone # of 877-329-4662. They did not provide any website. DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS COMPANY!
It's a rip-off because the actual filing is due anytime from Jan 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020 and can be done on-line at SOSonline.org and click on the Interactive Corporate Services link. It's $85 for a domestic companies, $150 for foreign entities and $35 for foreign or domestic non profits. If you want an official reminder about filing your Maine annual business report it will come from CEC.Corporations@Maine.gov
