The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the state rose by roughly two cents over the past week.
During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas jumped by five cents to $2.25, according to the popular price tracking website GasBuddy.
The $2.31 statewide average reported on Wednesday morning is higher than both New Hampshire's average $2.19 price per gallon and Vermont's average price of $2.28 per gallon.
“Motorists will be filling up their tanks with the cheapest summer gasoline since 2005 and we are finding that more people than ever will be taking advantage by hitting the road,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. “As we kick off the driving season, gas prices will be nearly a dollar per gallon lower than the 10-year Memorial Day average of $3.15 per gallon.”
