Maine Grains reveals the architectural plans for its new location

Emma Dimock, Marshall Communications Relationship Manager Amber Lambke, co-founder and CEO of Maine Grains, and Lev Yudin unveil the architectural plans for 24 Court St. in Skowhegan.

Maine Grains in Skowhegan unveiled architectural plans for its proposed new location, at 24 Court St., to be built in the adjacent lot.

The new proposed location will be 17,000 square feet.

The new site will have Maine Grains' offices. There will be a blending and packaging of grains for value-added products, online order fulfillment, administrative offices and rental space for other entrepreneurs. It will have an expanded dry good shop with a demonstration area, and a large social hall which can accommodate the winter farmers market and community gatherings, said Amber Lambke, co-founder and CEO at Maine Grains.

Lambke announced the plans at a press conference at the site on Sept. 8. She was joined by Richard Roberts of the Heritage Seed Restoration Project and Maine Grain Alliance and Anna Roosevelt from the Maine Grains board of directors.

"We are excited to use the moment of our 10th anniversary to share Maine Grains' expansion plans to include a new building at 24 Court St., right next door to the mill, that will create much-needed space for value added product development, packing, online order fulfillment, administrative offices and an expanded Dry Goods Shop to serve our community," said Lambke, who was named a Mainebiz Business Leader of the Year in March.

She has also been a key driver in Skowhegan's growth. The Maine Grains building also includes the Miller's Table cafe (at Maine Grains), a retail store and the Crooked Face Creamery, which is operated by Amy Rowbottom. Lambke's twin sister Heather Kerner started Canaan-based Good Crust, which makes pizza dough from Maine Grains flour.

"We’ve been working closely with the town over the last two years as part of our agreement to purchase the lot from Skowhegan Economic Development Corp.," said Lambke. "We have the town‘s support on the concept, and will be entering the site plan approval process shortly."

This past weekend, Maine Grains celebrated its 10th anniversary with a live fiddle band, yard games, 10th anniversary apparel for sale, a pasta demo and throwing competition and a pizza demo.

Maine Grains serves bakers, brewers, chefs, and families with fresh-milled, organic, and heritage grains sourced from the Northeast.
