Maine income grows, but outpaced by nation

Maine is lagging behind the nation in its growth of median income, according to the latest report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

James Mayall, policy analyst of the Maine Center for Economic Policy, told the Maine Public Broadcasting Network that nationally, the median household income rose by 5.2% from 2014-2015. But in Maine, the median income rose by 4.0%, the slowest rate in Northern New England.

“Median income went from about $49,500 in 2014 to $51,500, so an increase of about $2,000,” Mayall told MPBN.
