Jon Nass, CEO of the Maine Port Authority, has been elected to the board of directors of the International Association of Maritime and Port Professionals.
The nonprofit educational institution provides professional management seminars and industry recognized certifications to port and maritime managers. Its programs are reviewed and approved for certification by a board of advisors comprising more than 20 industry professionals.
The IAMPE has educated and provided professional port certification in numerous ports throughout North America and overseas and has over 2,000 alumni and members.
Educational partners include the Loeb-Sullivan School at Maine Maritime Academy, the Connecticut Port Authority, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Georgia Ports Authority, North Atlantic Ports Association, Port of Alaska, Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators, Houston Port Bureau, the Inland Rivers Port and Terminals Association, Oakley Ports, Lange-Stegman, Maine Port Authority, the Maritime Exchange of the Delaware Bay and River, Little Rock Port Authority, Port Milwaukee, the United States Coast Guard, Port Tampa Bay, Jacksonville Port Authority and HDR Engineering.
Nass was formerly the deputy commissioner at the Maine Department of Transportation. He also worked as a senior policy advisor in the Maine Governor’s Office, collaborating with stakeholders on issues that included transportation, education, emergency management, tax policy, and general government services.
Nass also served as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security, where he worked on restructuring the national intelligence apparatus and reforming the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He previously advised U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, on transportation, natural resources and international trade matters.
In 2008, Nass deployed to Iraq to serve on a U.S. State Department’s Provincial Reconstruction Team as a field officer embedded in a U.S. Army infantry battalion operating in the city of Baqubah. While in Iraq, he also served as a rule-of-law advisor working with the Iraqi judiciary and the Diyala provincial council before returning to Maine in 2010.
Nass received his law degree from the Catholic University of America, where he was a member of the Law Review.
