Maine signs onto Harvard career prep program
Maine is one of six states partnering with Harvard University to offer students alternatives to attending a four-year college. The program is the result of a report Harvard released last year that found young people should be encouraged to explore other educational offerings beyond a bachelor's degree.
The other participating states are Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina and Tennessee, according to The Associated Press. The states will work with Harvard's Pathways to Prosperity Project and Jobs for the Future, a Boston-based organization that works to align education with career opportunities. Representatives from both the university and Jobs for the Future will visit each participating state to analyze work force needs and determine whether appropriate post-secondary opportunities exist.
Other states are expected to participate in the program, according to The AP.
