Members of the Maine State Chamber will showcase their businesses and speak with Maine legislators and state officials about their priorities, concerns and challenges when the Chamber hosts its annual Business Day at the State House this Thursday.
Keynotes Julia Munsey, CEO of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and Heather Johnson, commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, are slated to speak at 10 a.m. at "an opportunity for people to meet me and for me to meet Maine businesses," Munsey told Mainebiz. "This event highlights Maine businesses and Maine people who are the heart and soul of our state. The event brings businesses to Augusta to engage with the legislature and make important connections.”
The March 30 event will be held in the Hall of Flags at the State House in Augusta from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Johnson plans to discuss the modernization of the DECD's key economic incentive program; the unemployment rate, which remains below 3%; the workforce shortage; and the Maine Career Exploration program for Maine high school students.
“National experts have said that Maine has had one of America’s strongest economic recoveries from the pandemic,” said Johnson, in her prepared remarks. “Our strong recovery is in large part thanks to your innovation, your adaptability, and your resilience.”
“From Jan 2019 through the third quarter of last year, our GDP has grown at the best rate in New England and the ninth-fastest rate in the nation,” she continued. “In fact, Maine has experienced more economic growth over the last four years than it did in the entire preceding fifteen years.”
The list of exhibitors scheduled to be at the event includes:
