Maine Technology Institute seeks energy innovators for $500K competition

The Maine Technology Institute is seeking proposals for the Maine Clean Energy Innovation Challenge, which Gov. Janet Mills introduced last month.

The $500,000 grant program, whose details were unveiled on Monday, aims to encourage clean energy startups and businesses to propose innovative, scalable solutions that will help meet Maine's climate and clean energy goals.

"MTI supports and funds projects in Maine’s seven targeted technology sectors, including environmental technologies and, specifically, clean energy innovation," said MTI President Brian Whitney in a news release. "Undeniably, the clean energy sector is growing rapidly, and MTI looks forward to identifying high-potential, impactful projects that will ensure that Maine continues to be part of this growth."

He later told Mainebiz, "We look forward to seeing and reviewing the many exciting proposals and providing some grant funding to catalyze their development in Maine."

Startups or small businesses engaged in clean energy innovation in Maine, or those currently located elsewhere looking to develop in Maine, are welcome to apply. Investments will be awarded to technologies or services that advance innovative solutions and have growth potential.

Submissions are due by June 18, and more information is available here.
