Maine Water hires former banker as controller

Maine Water Co. in Saco has hired a new controller to join the finance and accounting team.

Maine Water Co.
Justin Edelstein

Justin Edelstein brings several years of banking and utility experience. He will succeed Greg Leighton, the company’s current controller, who has announced plans to retire in April 2023 after 35 years of service.

“Justin is a great addition to the Maine Water team,” said Mark Vannoy, president of Maine Water. “He brings a successful track record of organizing, directing, and controlling financial, budgeting, and auditing activities that is essential for Maine Water to efficiently serve its customers, communities, and employees. Equally as important, he reflects the core values of service, transparency, and trust on which Maine Water has built its reputation.”

Before joining Maine Water, Edelstein was a vice president at Camden National Bank. He also has experience working at a regulated public utility in the tax department of Avangrid, Central Maine Power's parent company, from 2012 to 2017.

Edelstein is a CPA who earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine.

He has served as the treasurer of Midcoast Habitat for Humanity since June 2022 and is also a member of the board, along with the board of the local Little League. He lives in Rockport with his wife and three daughters.

"The culture of teamwork and service is what drew me to Maine Water," Edelstein said. "I am fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of an organization that is dedicated to delivering life-sustaining drinking water, preserving the environment, and is a force for good in the community.”

Edelstein will work closely with Leighton over the next several months to gain an understanding of Maine Water’s financial records and systems to ensure a seamless transition of controller responsibilities.

Founded in 1880, Maine Water is a regulated public water utility serving about 80,000 residents in 21 Maine towns across the Pine Tree State.
