In a year unlike any other, it's fitting that Mainebiz next week celebrates the 2020 Women to Watch with an event that's one-of-a-kind.
The virtual reception on American Business Women's Day, Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 4-6 p.m., honors five remarkable individuals — Angela Okafor, Elizabeth McLellan, Erin Flett, Heidi Neal and Marcia Minter. You can learn more about the 2020 honorees here.
While the pandemic has made it necessary for Mainebiz to host this year's reception online, it isn't some run-of-the-mill video conference.
The gala gets underway at 4 p.m. with virtual networking. Mainebiz is using the Remo platform, which allows participants to join various “tables” where you can see and talk with other attendees. There's no more than eight people per table, and you can switch tables anytime during the networking session where there is an open seat.
From 4:20-5:30 p.m., Mainebiz will present the Women to Watch awards to the honorees in a live-streamed ceremony hosted by Erin Ovalle, founder of Maine Life Media and former TV news anchor.
Then there's more networking until 6 p.m. and chances to win prizes. Sponsors for the event are Drummond Woodsum, Northeast Delta Dental and TD Bank.
The Women to Watch awards recognize top-notch female executives whose daily work strengthens their organizations and by extension, Maine's economy. Now in its 12th year, Women to Watch has honored a total of 55 remarkable individuals.
Registration is required for the 2020 Mainebiz Women to Watch reception, and the cost is $15. By registering to attend, you'll also be contributing to a donation to the CEI Women’s Business Center.
