Portland-based MaineHealth has scrapped plans to bring Goodall Hospital into the health care network, citing "burdensome federal regulatory requirements."
MaineHealth, the parent company to Maine Medical Center, and Goodall announced on Friday that they had terminated a membership agreement entered into this summer, according to a release. Both organizations had anticipated approval from the Federal Trade Commission within a 30-day window, but were surprised when the commission filed multiple requests for additional information. The amount of work and staff time needed to fulfill the requests would "cost hundreds of thousands of dollars," forcing the organizations to break off the agreement, according to the release. "Certainly, we weren't expecting to get caught up in what feels like an unnecessary bureaucratic and expensive process," Darlene Stromstad, president and CEO of Goodall Hospital, said in the release. "At this time, Goodall is far better served spending our resources on patient care than on paperwork."
MaineHealth and Goodall plan to explore other opportunities to work together on improving health care in York County, according to the release.
