Maine’s Tempest in a Teapot in national contest to divine the best tea
Instead of reading tea leaves, Tempest in a Teapot’s co-owners Tammy Smith and Rebecca Emerson will wait until later this month to find out whether their Holy Cranberry Tea wins at the North American Tea Championship in Henderson, Nev.
According to The Ellsworth American, Tempest’s Holy Cranberry Tea is made from ginger, cinnamon, holy basil and cranberries harvested from the Lincolnville-based Moody’s Bog.
“The cranberries were beautifully round, red and juicy. And all the way through the drying process, the cranberries remained flavorful and bright red in color, producing a light and fragrant tea,” Emerson told the American.
Tempest in a Teapot blends its own line of more than a dozen teas, using locally-sourced ingredients including fresh fruit, like peaches and herbs at its two blending houses in Stonington and Cushing.
Tempest’s Holy Cranberry Tea was entered in the Unflavored Herbal Blend category at the tea championships, where it will be judged by tea professionals on Sept. 15-16, according to the Ellsworth American.
