Mass. co. gets $9.2M Portland Harbor dredging deal

The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $9.2 million contract to the Massachusetts-based Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Co. to dredge Portland Harbor.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree announced on Friday the contract for the dredging project, which is scheduled for completion by March 2014. Mayor Michael Brennan praised the project in a prepared statement, saying, “The shipping channel through the Portland Harbor is a critical component of our transportation infrastructure and supports our regional economy.”

The Army Corps estimates the company will remove 700,000 cubic yards of materials from the harbor’s 35-foot-deep channel.
