Nearly 1,000 Mainers may find work this summer under the golden arches of McDonald’s restaurants, the company said Tuesday.
The fast-food giant expects to hire roughly 910 employees for a variety of jobs at McDonald’s franchises across the state. That’s down slightly from the 1,000 seasonal workers McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE: MCD) said it would add in Maine last summer, during the early weeks of the pandemic.
McDonald’s last year said it planned to make about 260,000 hires in the U.S. The company doesn’t release information about how many are actually hired.
Nearly 50 new safety measures were implemented in its franchises during 2020 to protect customers and staff.
“Now more than ever, we’re proud to support local job seekers in our community by providing employment and educational opportunities,” said Taylor Goble, a McDonald’s owner/operator. “A summer job at McDonald’s offers invaluable work readiness skills that are transferable to nearly every industry. We’re excited to add new members to our team and provide a safe, flexible and rewarding environment for our McFamily.”
Maine is home to approximately 60 McDonald’s restaurants, from Kittery to Fort Kent, and has more of them per capita than any other state in the Northeast, according to USA Today. There are nearly 39,000 of the iconic restaurants worldwide, and 14,000 in the U.S.
