MCF chooses new president

The Maine Community Foundation has selected Meredith Jones to replace Henry Schmelzer as president and chief executive officer of the philanthropic organization.

Schmelzer is retiring at the end of the year. Jones is currently the foundation's vice president for program development and grantmaking services, according to the Ellsworth American.

Schmelzer became the organization's leader in February 2000, and in eight years tripled the foundation's assets from $78 million to $250 million. Read more about Schmelzer, who was Mainebiz's "Business Leader of the Year" in 2007.
