MEMIC Group, a Portland-based workers’ compensation, continues adding to its workforce safety expertise team. It has hired a safety management consultant who brings 10 years of occupational health and safety experience to the firm.
Allison Short will be based in Georgia and available to MEMIC policyholders.
In this position, she will provide value to MEMIC policyholders in electrical safety, fleet safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, hazardous building materials, manufacturing safety and training.
Short has previously worked for Auburn University and Southern Co., one of the largest U.S. utilities.
“I believe educating the workforce and empowering them to make safe, informed decisions is essential to keeping people safe at work,” said Short. “I encourage teams to be curious, communicate, and adapt to find the best solutions for functional workplace safety.”
She received her bachelor’s in fine arts from the University of Georgia. She is pursuing a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Auburn University.
Short holds two professional certificates from the Georgia Institute of Technology, including the safety and health management certificate and the industrial safety and health certificate. She is also a certified safety professional and instructional trainer, an authorized OSHA outreach trainer for General Industry, and certified as an asbestos inspector.
She is active with the American Society of Safety Professionals and Women in Safety Excellence serving as a volunteer leader on the advisory committee.
The worker's compensation insurance company has 508 employees, including 315 in Maine. MEMIC insures and serves more than 20,000 employers and their estimated 300,000 employees. It has operations in 22 states.
