Michaud inches toward Blaine House run

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud moved closer to announcing a gubernatorial run this week, launching a campaign website and forming what he called an exploratory campaign committee.

The Bangor Daily News reported Maine's 2nd District congressional representative has not set a date for deciding whether he will officially register as a candidate.

Eliot Cutler says he intends to run for governor in 2014 as an independent and Republican Gov. Paul LePage has set up his campaign committee, fundraising operation and set out campaign priorities despite not yet making a formal announcement of a re-election bid.

Steve Woods, CEO of TideSmart Global and Yarmouth Town Council chairman, has formally announced his candidacy as a Democrat in the race, changing party alignment after his unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate seat won by Angus King.

David Slagger, a former Maliseet representative in the Maine House, has also announced his gubernatorial campaign to run as a Green-Independent.

Michaud's announcement also has drawn increased speculation and interest from politicians hoping to take over his congressional seat, the paper reported.
