As part of a $6.2 million renovation of its Parkview campus, Mid Coast Hospital has opened a new state-of-the-art primary care practice on the second floor of the former Brunswick hospital.
Located at 329 Maine St., Mid Coast Medical Group – Family Practice at Parkview opened on June 12.
The new family practice utilizes 10,000 square feet of the 33,000-square-foot campus renovation. The space was designed and built to accommodate delivery of preventive and chronic disease care, as well as integrated behavioral health counseling.
Known as a “patient-centered medical home,” this model of adult care is proven to improve patient outcomes and lower costs of health care, Mid Coast stated in a news release.
“We regularly emphasize primary care as the foundation of health care and an essential component of keeping individuals healthy and well,” said Dr. Scott Mills, vice president of medical staff administration and chief medical officer of Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “We built this new practice to meet the growing need within our community and are fortunate to have three providers available, improving access to routine and preventative care for children and adults.”
Renovations at the former Parkview Adventist Medical Center were launched last fall following the integration of Brunswick's two health care institutions after a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in Portland approved a plan in August 2015 allowing Mid Coast Health Services to purchase the assets of Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick for approximately $7.87 million.
“As we began the renovation of the Parkview facility, we quickly realized the potential for reuse of the space for practices and services that were needed in the community,” said Joe Grant, vice president of operations and systems at Mid Coast–Parkview Health. “Together with our board, we made the decision to utilize this campus for services that support our mission to transform health care and improve the overall health of the community.”
Other elements of the renovation include a 10,000-square-foot Center for Community Health and Wellness due to open in late 2017 and a 12,000-square-foot cancer care center, fully integrated with the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network, that will open in spring 2018, Grant said.
