Mill hiring to meet demand

Great Northern Paper is looking for nearly 40 new hires as it prepares to restart an idled machine and catch up on a 35-40 day backlog of orders.

The new hires will expand the work force at the East Millinocket mill by 16%, according to a release from the company. It is looking for managers and papermakers, as well as workers for the grinder and wood rooms, warehouse and maintenance staff.

Part of the mill's surge in business is attributed to producing more than 3,000 tons of its Baxter Brite grade of paper for the racy "Fifty Shades" trilogy of books that has dominated the New York Times fiction bestseller list.
