Montreal manufacturer eyed for Brunswick Landing
State and local officials are hoping to woo a Canadian aircraft and train manufacturer to Brunswick Landing. George Gervais, the state's Department of Economic and Community Development commissioner, and representatives from the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority last month met with officials from Bombardier Inc., touting the former Navy base's assets.
Maine and Bombardier officials met May 10 and had other preliminary discussions, Gervais told the Portland Press Herald. The administration invited the company to come to Maine to learn about its work force, aerospace and composites clusters, with hopes the company would consider Brunswick if it decides to open a new service center. A Bombardier spokeswoman declined to elaborate except to say the company is always looking for the best ways to grow.
Montreal-based Bombardier operates in North America, Asia and Europe. It has eight service and repair facilities in the United States, including one in Hartford, Conn.
MRRA officials are still looking for an anchor tenant for Brunswick Landing, which has an airport and hangars. Earlier this year, Kestrel Aviation announced it would establish its manufacturing operation in Wisconsin instead of Brunswick to take advantage of financial incentives.
