National group shifts Maine insurance cost rank
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners says Maine had the third-lowest auto insurance premiums in the country and the 11th-lowest premiums for homeowners' insurance in 2011.
The state’s Bureau of Insurance reported the latest survey moved Maine up two spots from its 5th-lowest ranking for auto insurance in a 2010 survey. For homeowners' insurance, the state moved down to 11th from its ninth-lowest ranking in 2010.
