“We are pleased to welcome Sandy Shapiro-Hurt to our Portland office,” said Chris Lynch, founder and president of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty.

“Her deep-rooted passion for Maine, experience in the film industry, and location scouting, coupled with her love for staging spaces and connecting clients with their dream properties, make her an invaluable asset to our team.”

During her childhood in Camden, Shapiro-Hurt spent summers racing sailboats and teaching sailing on Penobscot Bay and winters skiing in the Camden Hills.

After graduating from Emerson College in Boston, she had a career in the feature film industry. Shapiro-Hurt worked in set dressing departments for New York City-based films and worked as a location manager and location scout for Maine-based films. In collaboration with directors, producers and writers, she explored the state to find locations for every scene.

Balancing the needs of property owners and film crews required communication, mediation, contract negotiations, organization, resourcefulness and the ability to stay cool in very stressful situations, she said.

Subsequently, she launched an event design and production company, specializing in Maine-based destination weddings and large fundraising events.
