New co. to take over Telford facility

Telford Aviation's former aircraft maintenance facility at Bangor International Airport will soon transition to the control of a newly formed company.

Maine Aero Services Inc. announced yesterday it will take over operations of the facility, CEO Gene Richardson told the Bangor Daily News. The Telford Group in 2009 was sold to Milkwaukee-based air cargo company ACC Holdings LLC, which earlier this year reached a deal to transfer operations of the maintenance facility to Australian firm C&L Aerospace. C&L Managing Director Chris Kilgour said at the time a new corporation would be formed to run the facility, and the Bangor City Council last week approved turning over the lease at the BIA facility to Maine Aero Services, according to the paper. Telford's large and military aircraft operations and parts business is still owned by ACC Holdings.

Richardson, a local businessman who owned software firm Advanced Data Systems of Bangor for 28 years before retiring in 2007, said the new company will service local planes and small international aircraft, and will keep a dozen technicians on staff.
