Maine Life Media, founded by local media personality Erin Ovalle, debuted its new program “This is Maine” on NESN’s regional platform on Saturday.

The new series, which is scheduled to air for 26 weeks at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays on NESN, seeks to attract people to live and work in Maine by celebrating 13 success stories about people who are already doing so.

Ovalle likes to think of it as economic development through entertainment.

Maine Life Media was created to develop programming that celebrates Maine’s unique and exceptional quality of life,” said Ovalle, who hosts the new series. "Our partnership with NESN validates our belief in the awesomeness of Maine and we can’t wait to share This is Maine with all of New England.”

Ovalle said the series gets to the roots of why people choose to live and work in different Maine communities, demonstrating to a New England audience that people can have it all in Maine — world-class companies, opportunities to invest and maintain a healthy work/life balance. With the profiled individuals, she goes into their community to chat with business owners, Realtors and residents to discover what makes the town or neighborhood so desirable.

Profiles include:

  • Heather Johnson of Skowhegan, who left the state for 20 years, but returned home to raise her son and is now commissioner of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development.
  • Caitlin Crowe, from York, who moved away from Maine for 10 years, but has moved back to Portland for its quality of life. Crowe works at Key Bank and is passionate about the outdoors and volunteering.
  • Dan Kleban, who is originally from the Midwest, but moved to Maine with his brother 20 years ago and started Maine Beer Co. in Freeport.

Sponsors supporting the program including presenting sponsors Poland Spring and Live+Work in Maine.

“As an iconic Maine brand, Poland Spring is proud to partner with ‘This is Maine’ for its inaugural season,” Heather Printup, community relations manager for the bottled spring water company owned by Nestlé Waters North America, said in a news release. “Having been a part of Maine for nearly 175 years, we are passionate about everything that makes this state such a great place to live and work. Through ‘This is Maine,’ we can showcase the beauty, people and community spirit of our home state.”

Ed McKersie, president of Live+Work in Maine, said the series reinforces the basic message his private-sector organization tries to convey as it works to increase awareness about career opportunities that exist in Maine as well as promote the world-class quality of life Mainers enjoy.

“We are proud of our partnership with Erin,” McKersie said. “Her vision for ‘This is Maine’ and the stories she shares about the state’s quality of life and the amazing people who live here is closely aligned with our mission to market Maine as a career destination.”
