New Ventures Maine promotes longtime employee to program director

New Ventures Maine, a statewide education and economic development program, has promoted Suzanne Senechal-Jandreau to the role of program director.

New Ventures Maine is administered through the University of Maine at Augusta and the University of Maine System. The mission is to help Maine people succeed in the changing economy and achieve economic security for themselves and their families.

In her new role, Senechal-Jandreau will develop and evaluate programs in career development, small business and financial literacy, and also will manage statewide services and partnerships.

Senechal-Jandreau has worked for New Ventures Maine in Aroostook County since 1997 in several roles, including center coordinator, regional manager, and, most recently, statewide workforce development manager.

She also led the nonprofit's work developing Trades for ME, a series of conferences to help junior high and high school-aged students learn about trade careers. Senechal-Jandreau also has experience as a certified disability case manager and a licensed social worker.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work at the University of Maine and a master’s degree in adult and higher education from the University of Southern Maine. She is a certified financial social work educator.

“Suzanne has been outstanding as our workforce development manager and we are extremely fortunate that she will serve the organization in this new role,” said Janet Smith, executive director of New Ventures Maine.

Senechal-Jandreau was chosen through a search to succeed Jean Dempster, who will retire on April 1 after 23 years of service with the organization. Dempster has worked with New Ventures Maine since 2000.

“Jean is highly regarded by our staff, partners, and participants,” said Smith. “She has served as our program director since 2018 and, prior to that, was a regional manager for 11 years and provided classes and coaching for participants in all of our program areas. She led the matched savings programs for NVME and held a strong belief that everyone can save money if given the tools ... As she guided staff through many transitions over the years, Jean led with kindness while also exemplifying high standards.”
