New hires

Northern Light Cancer Care in Brewer hired Shruti Bhandari, Hilal Hachem, Yelena Patsiornik and Sriman Swarup as oncologists/hematologists. Bhandari has a clinical interest in solid tumors with a focus on gastroenterological cancer, melanoma and neuro-oncology; Hachem in breast and gynecologic cancers, solid cancers, as well as both malignant and benign hematologic disorders; Patsiornik in breast and thoracic oncology; and Swarup in thoracic oncology, benign hematology, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative neoplasms.

RE/MAX Shoreline in Portland hired Jenn Lacey and Sierra Curtis as agents in the Portland office.

Sebago Technics, an engineering consulting firm in South Portland, hired Amy Bell Segal as senior landscape architect. Segal was previously with TJD&A.

Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law firm in Auburn, hired Reeve Wood as of counsel, focusing on title work and real estate transactions. Most recently, Wood was legal counsel at Maine Farmland Trust.

The city of Auburn hired Glen Holmes as director of business and community development and Jay Brenchick as director of economic development. Holmes was previously president of Community Concepts Finance Corp. while Brenchick was president and CEO of Franklin Southampton Economic Development Inc.

Lynam Real Estate in Bar Harbor hired Chris Watkins as a licensed agent on its real estate team.

Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston hired Angie Snow as branch manager for its Sabattus Street location in Lewiston and Sharon Goes as branch manager for its Subaru Drive location in Auburn.

Promotions

The city of Auburn promoted Eric Cousens to director of planning and permitting. Cousens was previously deputy director of ECD.

Town & Country FCU in Scarborough promoted Jon Paradise to senior vice president of communications, marketing and community outreach. Paradise previously served as vice president of public relations and communications.

Clark Insurance in Portland promoted Kelly St. Onge to personal insurance department coordinator. St. Onge was previously senior account manager.

Achievements

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works said it received the “Pro Patria” award from the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve for making sure its employees who serve in the National Guard or Reserves have the support they need in the work they do for the military. The company also announced that it was the recipient of the “Platinum Medallion” from the U.S. Department of Labor for its efforts to recruit and hire veterans and facilitate their transition into shipbuilding.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm in Portland, said it received “National Tier 1” recognition for mass tort litigation/class actions — defendants for the fifth straight year from U.S. News — Best Lawyers in 2021. The firm also received four “National Tier 2” and one “National Tier 3” practice rankings and as well as 74 metropolitan rankings.

The Maine Arts Commission selected Dianne Ballon, Gabriel Frey, Sarah Haskell, Jocelyn Lee, Alex Marzano-Lesnevich, Michael O. and Tim Whitten as recipients of its “2021 Fellowship” awards.

Atlantic Federal Credit Union in South Portland announced Tina Nop as the recipient of the “2020 Entrepreneurial Empowerment Scholarship.” The scholarship was created by the Fork Food Lab to address the racial-economic gap that inhibits Black, Indigenous and people of color from starting food businesses in Maine. Nop has plans to start a food truck business called Sok Sabai.

The Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk said it was awarded the highest ranking by Charity Navigator for the eighth consecutive year. The organization received four out four stars indicating it demonstrates strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency while executing its mission with responsible governance and commitment to best practices.

Geiger, a promotional products distributor in Lewiston, presented its quarterly “Geiger Star Awards.” Recipients included Evan Smith, web architect in IT; Patrick Travers, account specialist in Farmers’ Almanac; Stephanie Childs, administrative support specialist in office services; Wendy Walsh, programmer analyst in IT; and the Product Safety Team consisting of Kim Beaudin, director of vendor relations, Nat Bullock, product responsibility and global services manager, and David Geiger, general counsel and risk management manager.

The Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants recently held its “Accolades & Accentuating Resilience” event virtually. As part of the event, Karla Brannen of Brannen CPA Services was named “The Startup Standout"; John Chandler, BerryDunn, and Pete Dufour, Dufour Tax Group, were both named “The Forward Thinker"; Tracy Harding, BerryDunn, was selected “The Wise Sage"; Julia Henze, director of finance for the town of Brunswick, was named “The Municipal Superhero"; Jeffrey Hubert, Wipfli, was selected as “The Giver"; Nathaniel Marcet, Baker Newman Noyes, was “The Engaging Educator"; Kelly Pelletier, Baker Newman Noyes, was named “The Rising Star"; and Matthew Tardiff, J.S. McCarthy Printers, was chosen as “The Soaring Flyer.”

Katahdin Trust named Craig Staples, vice president commercial services officer in Presque Isle, as its “Top of the Mountain Commitment to Community Award” winner as part of its annual employee appreciation event. In addition, Susan White in Houlton was recognized for 30 years of service; Janet Saucier and Kevin Plourde, 25 years; Peggy Smith, Bonnie Foster and Lorraine Guiggey, 20 years; Joseph Porter, Tannis Lundin, Lindsay Corey, Janet Doak and Staples, 15 years; Danelle Weston, Emily Bulley, Samuel Clockedile, Jeremy MacArthur, Julie Kaelin, Wendy Clark and Lesia Grooms, 10 years; and Kati Deane-Grant, Clarissa Crandall, Monica Campbell, Diane Hewett, Kelly Emery, Jasmine Rockwell, Kelsey Charette and Tabitha Corey, five years.

The American Heart Association announced that six Maine organizations received recognition for taking steps to build a culture of health and invest in the health of their workforce as part of the 2020 results of the American Heart Association Workplace Health Achievement Index. IDEXX and Kennebunk Savings were recognized at the gold level in the index while Turner Construction-Maine Medical Center Expansion Project and MaineGeneral Health were listed at the silver level and OceanView at Falmouth and Maine Veterans’ Homes at the bronze level.

The Maine Tourism Association in Hallowell announced it will induct Alvion Kimball, chair of DownEast Acadia Regional Tourism, into its Hall of Fame. Kimball has served as chair of the organization for six years, instituted its Annual Symposiums beginning in 2015 and has been a board member since 2003 as a representative of the East Penobscot Bay region.

U.S. Sen. Angus King was announced as a recipient of the National Park Foundation’s inaugural “Hero” award for his leadership in passing the Great American Outdoors Act and to honor his lifelong environmental stewardship and advocacy.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced its annual award winners.
