Jake Warn, a student at Thomas College in Waterville, won first place and $10,000 in prize money in the finals of “Greenlight Maine College Edition” for his company called SledTrx.com, a website for snowmobile riders. Fellow Thomas College student Dylan Veilleux captured second place, and $7,500, for TreeFreeHeat, a company that recycles Maine’s hemp waste into fast-lighting, long-lasting fire starters.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce honored U.S. Sen. Susan Collins with the “Jefferson – Hamilton Award for Bipartisanship,” which recognizes members of Congress who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward. Collins received a perfect score for the second consecutive year.

The Portland International Jetport announced that it was chosen by Airport Council International Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira to join the “ACI Director General’s Roll of Excellence.” Since its creation in 2011, only 58 airports worldwide have been inducted. To qualify, an airport must win multiple “Airport Service Quality Awards” over a five-year period during the past 10 years.
Tyler Technologies Inc. in Yarmouth announced that Aidan Blum Levine, Sarah Hagan and Frazier Dougherty were the top three finishers in the “2021 Tyler Technologies Maine App Challenge.” Levine, of Deering High School, took first place for creating Oops! I Forgot!, an app that provides students a way to stay organized and keep track of school assignments, classes and activities; Hagan, of Cape Elizabeth High School, finished second for The Bookshelf Elf, a tool to help middle school students choose books that interest them to encourage independent reading; and Dougherty, of Yarmouth High School, placed third for Train ME, a workout app that focused on high intensity interval training.
