New hires

InterMed, an independent, physician-owned practice in Portland, hired Lindsay Fitzgerald as chief human resources officer. Fitzgerald has 20 years of experience in human resources. The practice also hired Maura Fox as a board-certified family medicine physician, Lauren Jamele-Townley as a board-certified pediatrician and Kaitlyn McCune as a board-certified ob-gyn.

Maulian Bryant was appointed executive director of the Wabanaki Alliance.

The Wabanaki Alliance hired Maulian Bryant as executive director. Bryant has served as Penobscot Nation Ambassador since 2017.

The Municipal Review Committee hired Gary Hartmann as COO of the Municipal Waste Solutions facility in Hampden. Hartmann was previously district general manager for Waste Connections in Albany, N.Y.

Allen Wealth Management in Camden hired Lily Schoonover as a financial service coordinator.

Channel 8 WMTW in Portland hired Scott McDonnell as a member of its 5 p.m. anchor team.

The Maine Island Trail Association in Portland hired Ben Dougherty as executive director. Dougherty most recently served as CEO and head of school for the Island School on Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

Promotions

Chelsea Pettengill has been named as the interim executive director of the Maine Port Authority.

The Maine Port Authority in Portland promoted Chelsea Pettengill to interim executive director. Pettengill was previously deputy director.

Maine Savings Federal Credit Union in Hampden promoted Steve Gray to vice president of communications. Gray was previously digital marketing director.

Sheridan Construction in Fairfield promoted Wesley Jordan to sales manager.

Atlantic Federal Credit Union in South Portland promoted Jamie Mawhinney to COO.

The County Federal Credit Union in Caribou promoted Dustin Graham to retail services manager of the Northern Region. Graham was previously Caribou branch manager.

Appointments

Portland Ovations added Lynn Teo and Mary Wellehan to its board of directors. Teo is an acupuncturist, somatic educator and meditation teacher while Wellehan is an artist and educator.

Maine Sports Commission added Patrick Caron and Jeff McCabe to its board of directors. Caron is the founder of Move Free while McCabe is director of the Maine Office of Outdoor Recreation.

Achievements

Maine Downtown Center named the Heart of Ellsworth as an accredited national Main Street Community.

MaineHealth said that Dean Robinson, Megan Charest, Shaylea Haines and Carla Niles all completed a Certified Nurses Aide program in partnership with Central Lincoln County Adult & Community Education.

The New England Council, the nation’s oldest regional business association, named Melissa Smith as one of its “New Englanders of the Year.” Smith is chair, CEO and president of WEX.

U.S. Sen. Angus King was named a “Legislator of the Year” by the International Franchise Association, the world’s oldest and largest organization representing franchising worldwide.

Harbor Burger Shack in Kittery said its “Beef n Reef Lobster Burger” was featured in Forbes.

The Michelin Guide recognized eight Maine properties as “One Key” hotels in its latest rankings. The Lincoln Hotel in Biddeford; Camden Harbour Inn; Cliff House Maine, Cape Neddick; AWOL Kennebunkport; Kennebunkport Captains Collection; White Barn Inn & Spa, Auberge Resorts Collection, Kennebunkport; and Blind Tiger Portland, Danforth Street and Carleton Street locations, were included on the list.

The University of Maine at Farmington was named a “Best Value” college by the 2025 U.S. News & World Report College Rankings for its academic quality and affordability. The annual national college rankings listed the university No. 8 on the “Best Value” list; No. 5 for “Top Performers on Social Mobility;” No. 11 “Top Public School;” and No. 15 “Top Regional College (North).”

Southern Maine Agency on Aging in Portland named EqualityMaine its “Community Partner of the Year” award winner at its Charting the Future Luncheon. Other award winners included Regina Phillips, co-founder of Cross Cultural Community Solutions and Portland City Councilor, as the organization’s “Champion for Older Adults” and Kerri Berman as the “Volunteer of the Year Award” winner.

Historic New England named Earle Shettleworth Jr. as the recipient of its “2024 Preservation Leadership Award” for his lifelong dedication to promoting and protecting history and architecture in Maine and beyond. Shettleworth spent 40 years as director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission and six terms (and counting) as Maine’s state historian.

Camden National Bank held its annual Employee Appreciation Event and named Jaimie Worster, senior vice president, human resource total rewards manager, Portland, as its “Officer of the Year” and Marc St. Pierre, technical support analyst, Gardiner, as its “Stakeholder of the Year.” In addition, Amanda Wing, Corey Belcher, Jeremy Blazen, Jody Landrith, Josh Tainter, Katie Rose, Toni Joerres, Brandy Oliver, Liz Braley, Mike Clark, Cole Pendleton, Matthew Tardiff, Brenda Avery and Arissa Egan received “Commitment Awards.”

Maine Development Foundation announced its “2024 Champion Award” winners. The Finance Authority of Maine College Access and Financial Education Team was named the “2024 Champion of Education and Workforce Development;” Deb Rountree, executive director of rural development initiatives with Eastern Maine Community College and U-Maine-Augusta, was the “2023 Champion of Rural Economic Development;” and Samantha Burdick, communications director with Maine Education Association, received the “2024 Dirigo Rising Young Professional Award.”

2024 Justice for Women Lecture presented its “Courage is Contagious Award” to Kim Moody and Fowsia Musse. Moody is executive director of Disability Rights Maine in Augusta while Musse is executive director of Maine Community Integration in Lewiston.
