No. 2 in DECD now No. 1

The former head of Bangor's Bass Park Complex and the No. 2 man in the state's Department of Economic and Community Development was sworn in as commissioner of the DECD yesterday.

Thaxter Trafton took the top spot following an announcement from former commissioner John Richardson that he was stepping down to run for governor. Trafton served as deputy commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development since 2006, according to the Bangor Daily News, and was the director of business development at the department from 2003 to 2006.

Previously, Trafton administered the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority, where he supervised agreements with Coliseum sports franchises including Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics, the National Football League's Oakland Raiders and the National Basketball Association's Golden State Warriors. He served as president and commissioner of the International Basketball League from 1996 to 2001, according to the Daily News.
