Gov. John Baldacci has nominated David Littell, commissioner of the state's Department of Environmental Protection, to serve on the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
Littell would finish out the term of Sharon Reishus, who resigned early last month, according to MaineToday Media. The term expires in March 2015. Littell has spent seven years at DEP, five as commissioner, and previously worked as a lawyer for Portland firm Pierce Atwood and served as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Navy Reserves, according to a press release from the governor's office. A Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for Aug. 25, following consideration by the Joint Standing Committee on Utilities and Energy, according to the release.
Baldacci has also nominated Angela Faherty, currently acting commissioner of the Department of Education, to assume the post permanently. Susan Gendron stepped down as commissioner of the department this spring.
