Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland has added Dr. Joseph Young to its orthopedic care team.
Young joins orthopedic surgeons Dr. Stephen Rodrigue and Dr. Sara Shubert at Mercy’s orthopedic practice in Falmouth.
Young is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee joint replacement. His expertise also includes robotic-assisted joint replacement and treating trauma-related injuries.
The Massachusetts native completed his undergraduate degree at Yale University, where he was an all-conference defensive lineman for the football team. He received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts and followed with residency training at Albany Medical Center in New York.
Young then completed advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was trained in minimally invasive techniques in joint replacement surgery.
Young is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters, and has presented his research locally and nationally.
Northern Light Mercy Hospital is ranked No. 6 among the state's largest hospitals, according to the 2023 Mainebiz Book of Lists, based on a licensed bed count of 200. The hospital has 1,470 employees and reported $579 million in revenue during 2020, the most recent year data was available.
