Old Town city manager resigns

Old Town City Manager Peggy Daigle resigned last night, a day after being temporarily relieved of her duties by the city council.

Councilors voted 6-1 last night to accept Daigle's resignation, according to the Bangor Daily News. In her resignation letter, Daigle, who served as city manager for more than six years, said the decision "was not for cause, simply a choice on the part of the city council to take the city into a new direction with new leadership."

While city manager, Daigle oversaw the redevelopment of the former Georgia-Pacific paper mill into Old Town Fuel & Fiber and was involved in Johnson Outdoors deciding to establish a new facility in Old Town and create 50 new jobs. Last year, Daigle won the Maine Town and City Management Association's 2010 Leadership Award, a nomination supported by city council Chairman David Mahan, who was one of the six to vote for her resignation.

Daigle will be on 90 days' administrative leave before her employment is terminated, per her contact. Assistant City Manager Bill Mayo will serve as acting manager.
