One of the troop carrier airlines that was considering the use of Portsmouth's airport for its transit services has abruptly ended its relationship with that airport, cementing its relationship with Bangor International Airport, according to Foster's Daily Democrat.
Oklahoma-based Omni Air has used Bangor International Airport during its overseas military charter flights for the past several years. Earlier this week, it was reported that Portsmouth International Airport had waived all service fees to lure the airline away from Bangor and had made an agreement with the airline to give its runway a shot. Rebecca Hupp, director of the Bangor airport, told Mainebiz on Monday that Portsmouth's claims of landing Omni Air and World Air as customers were "premature."
Omni's decision to stop using the Portsmouth airport came as a surprise, David Mullen, executive director of the Pease Development Authority, told Foster's Daily Democrat. Mullen said no reason was given for the airline's departure, but he assumed it had something to do with the costs of operating out of two airports -- Bangor and Portsmouth.
