Ozzy Osbourne to ride 'Crazy Train' into Bangor for 10th Waterfront Concerts season

Heavy-metal headliner Ozzy Osbourne is likely to draw an equally large crowd as the first artist to sign on for Bangor's Waterfront Concerts' 10th anniversary season next summer. Osbourne, often referred to as The Prince of Darkness, is scheduled to perform on June 15.

Bangor’s Waterfront Concerts on Monday announced heavy-metal headliner Ozzy Osbourne as the first artist of its 10th anniversary season in 2019.

Osbourne, "The Prince of Darkness" who made headlines in 1982 for biting off the head of a live bat onstage in Iowa, is scheduled to perform at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor on June 15, 2019, backed by longtime band members Zakk Wylde on guitar, Blasko on bass, Tommy Clufetos on drums and Adam Wakeman on keyboards. Special guest will be Megadeath, a thrash heavy metal band.

In a statement on its website, Waterfront Concerts said it was “unceasingly grateful” for the continuous support of community members, businesses, nonprofits and other arts organizations that have supported and collaborated with it through the years.

It added: “We are excited to continue developing the Bangor Waterfront in conjunction with the City of Bangor, with a larger and more modern facility for all our fans, family and supporters in the not-too-distant future.”

The concert news generated instant buzz on social media and was welcomed by Tanya Emery, director of community and economic development for the city of Bangor, in an email to Mainebiz.

“The City is so excited to see that the 10th year of Waterfront Concerts at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion is off to a big start with this announcement,” she said. “The concerts have brought thousands of people to Bangor from Maine, New England, and Canada, and we look forward to another great year of music in Bangor.”

Waterfront Concerts is the company that puts on Bangor's summertime music series on the banks of the Penobscot River. Promoter Alex Gray signed a new 10-year contract with the city of Bangor last year.

Lawn tickets for the June 15 Ozzy Osbourne and Megadeath concert are advertised at $39.50, while reserved seats run from $59.50 to $250.00.

The concert is part of Osbourne’s No More Tours II tour, the second semi-annual tour by the former Black Sabbath band member — 16 years after his No More Tours Tour in 1992. His last concert tour was the “Ozzy and Friends Tour” in 2012.

Osbourne, who will turn 70 on Dec. 3, rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath and went on to launch a successful solo career — releasing “Crazy Train” as the first single from his debut solo album, “Blizzard of Ozz,” in 1981. Younger generations may only know him from “The Osbournes” early 2000s-era MTV reality show.
