Parkview hospital lays off 14

Parkview Adventist Medical Center in Brunswick has laid off 14 employees in hopes of streamlining the hospital, the Times Record reports.

Parkview eliminated positions from nutritional services, finance, admitting and administration after finding that some areas overstaffed compared with other hospitals, according to the paper. "The clinical areas were not touched," Parkview Vice President Sheryl McWilliams told the newspaper.

In a letter about the layoffs, Parkview President and Chief Executive Officer Ted Lewis wrote that Parkview is feeling pressure from patients, government, businesses and others to operate more efficiently.
