Pellet cos. receive $100,000

Three Maine wood pellet producers are receiving a total of $102,155 in federal money to support their production.

Corinth Wood Pellets in Corinth will receive $31,406; Maine Wood Pellet Co. in Athens will receive $58,923; and Geneva Wood Fuels in Strong will receive $11,826, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program, which is distributing the money. The USDA will pay more than 160 energy producers in 41 states to support production and expansion of the advanced biofuels industry. Producers were eligible for funds based on the amount of biofuels produced from renewable biomass, not including corn kernel starch.
