PenBay Chamber hires a new director to take over from Peaco

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce said Thursday it has hired its next president and CEO, Eric Belley.

Belley has served as a business development officer for several area banks and has been involved in numerous community and board efforts, the chamber said. His banking experience has included Bangor Savings, Machias Savings and First National Bank, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The PenBay Chamber conducted a nationwide search after the departure of former CEO Tom Peaco, who left in June to become president and CEO of the University of Maine Alumni Association.

In the interim, the chamber was led by Gordon Page, who will help with the opening weeks of Belley’s transition.

The PenBay Chamber, the state's third-largest chamber, serves businesses in 27 municipalities in Knox County as a whole and the general Rockland-Camden area.

Belley's first day will be Sept. 26.

“Eric Belley is a superb addition to the Chamber with his breadth of knowledge about the Camden-Rockland region, and his experience within the local business community will allow him to hit the ground running,” said Sheila Lowe, chair of the chamber board.

Belley has served as chair of the Knox Waldo Regional Economic Development Council, is past treasurer of United Midcoast Charities, past president of the Midcoast Junior Golf Association and has been an instructor for the Five Towns Communities That Care STAR Program. He has an extensive Rotary Club background as well.

After several years in Florida, he returned to Maine in May and has been living with his family in Appleton.

“Moving back to Maine was a great decision for me and my family. As president and CEO of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, I am eager to put my varied skill set to work for the Camden-Rockland Region. I look forward to meeting our members at upcoming Chamber events, discussing their needs, and working with Chamber staff members, Amy Rollins and Diane Norton, as we promote the region’s business community and its amazing natural resources,” said Belley.
