Pineland Farms Inc. in New Gloucester is phasing out its executive director position and preparing to lose the man who's led the campus since its beginnings.
Todd Jepson, who has headed the agriculture and education complex for eight years, will leave sometime in 2010, according to Craig Denekas, vice president of the Libra Foundation, which acquired the 5,000-acre campus in 2000. Describing the change as an "evolution," Denekas told Mainebiz the position eventually will be eliminated as responsibilities shift to managers of each of the farm's operational areas, such as its creamery and beef herd. "Todd was responsible for helping us get what we envisioned up and running," he said, adding that there's "no great urgency" to the changes. "We think extremely highly of Todd," Denekas said.
The timing for his departure depends on how the transition proceeds and when he lands his "next best thing," said Jepson, who formerly worked as a production manager for L.L.Bean. "We're at a point now where the different operational areas are ready to fly on their own," he said. The elimination of his position isn't a cost-cutting move, but will result in cost efficiencies, he said.
