Plum Creek review stalls

The commission charged with reviewing a development plan in the Moosehead region yesterday postponed public hearings after the developer altered its application.

The Land Use Regulation Commission voted to push back its public review of Seattle-based Plum Creek Timber Co.'s application, originally slated to begin on Nov. 3, in response to further alterations the company made to its development plan, the Bangor Daily News reported. The earliest likely date for the rescheduled hearing will be in late November or early December, and the review process could extend into 2008.

Plum Creek is seeking a zoning change to build nearly 1,000 houses and two resorts in the Moosehead Lake region. Most recent changes to the application include permanent caps on development in the subdivisions to prevent further growth, interest-free loans to construct a hiking trail and easements to allow public access to 57 miles of roads, the paper reported.
