Point Lookout to reopen

The new owner of Point Lookout in Northport plans to reopen the former MBNA corporate retreat resort next month.

The Baltimore-based Erickson Foundation, a retirement community developer, plans to market the 380-acre complex, which has been closed for two years, to companies as a place for corporate meetings and training sessions, and also will allow the general public to reserve cottages and purchase memberships in the fitness club or bowling alley, according to Portland news station WSCH 6. The facility has a conference center, fitness center, bowling alley and 106 guest cabins. Foundation officials hope to have 50 employees working there by the end of the year.

The foundation's marketing director says the organization does not plan to turn Point Lookout into a retirement community, but will promote it as a vacation spot for retirees. The Erickson Foundation purchased the facility last December.
