Portland city officials and developers of the New England Ocean Cluster House have identified the Maine State Pier as the location for the marine-based business incubator.
Patrick Arnold, CEO of Soli DG Inc., told the Bangor Daily News that his joint project with Thor Sigfusson, founder of the Iceland Ocean Cluster House, has already attracted some private investment and that 18 companies are interested in the site. Arnold’s company operates the International Marine Terminal in Portland for the Maine Port Authority.
The business incubator’s developers and Portland city developers are working on creating a public-private partnership for developing a 30,000-square-foot space at the pier, Portland Economic Director Greg Mitchell said. The space would be designed for early-stage companies developing marine-based products.
